This page contains information for Veterans who are Medicare-eligible.
I, John N. Nanni, am a veteran. I served just over 9 years in the Arizona Army National Guard. I was honorably discharged on May 1, 1996. I enjoy helping veterans with their Medicare health plan, other insurance products, and investments.
You are encouraged to call me if you are using the VA healthcare system for your healthcare needs. You have additional benefits available to you that may or may not have never been explained to you. I will review all of your rights, options, and entitlements when it comes to Medicare health plans, and I explain it all in an easy-to-understand manner. My phone number is (602) 690-9358; TTY 711.
Here is some information that may be helpful to you as a veteran of the armed services:
Eligibility:
You may be eligible to enroll in the VA health care system if all of these statements are true:
- You served in the active military, naval, or air service (including being called up from the National Guard or Reserve by a federal order), and
- You didn’t receive a dishonorable discharge, and
- You meet at least one of the service requirements for enrollment
You must meet at least one of these service requirements:
- You served at least 24 months in a row without a break (called continuous), or for your full active-duty period, or
- You were discharged for a service-connected disability, or
- You were discharged for a hardship or “early out,” or
- You served before September 7, 1980
Note: Time spent on active-duty status for training purposes only doesn’t count toward the service requirements.

Medicare:
You are encouraged to enroll in Medicare Parts A and B even though you may only use the VA health care system for your healthcare needs. Medicare Part A and Part B is called Original Medicare. Understand that healthcare provided by the VA is a benefit to you if you meet the criteria indicated above. It’s not insurance. Not enrolling in Original Medicare upon the latter of you turning age 65 or upon the termination of creditable coverage (most employer-sponsored plans) can have a detrimental effect on securing Original Medicare in the future.
Prescriptions:
The VA health care system is not considered creditable coverage. The prescription benefit associated with the VA healthcare system is creditable. This means that you may enroll in a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (Part D) after turning 65 without penalty as long as you have Original Medicare.
The Cost:
There is no premium to use the VA healthcare system for your healthcare needs.
Additional Options:
There are additional benefits that are available to you if you currently only have Original Medicare (Parts A and B) along with the benefits offered through the VA Healthcare system. Please call me if you are interested in discussing these additional benefits. Some significant benefits are of no cost to you. My phone number is (602) 690-9358.
TRICARE for Life:
Please call me to discuss what is significant about Tricare and how that relates to you. My phone number is (602) 690-9358; TTY 711.
